I got new hair. I think it's fabulous it but my husband... well, he's not as enthused about it as I am.

See, we're going home soon. In a 2 and a half week span we plan to visit 3 states, see lots of family and friends and be in a wedding (the girls, not us). And in my excitement I decided to switch it up and surprise everyone with a fabulous new look!
Marcus and I talked about what style I would get. I said just about shoulder length. He said long. I said straight bangs. He said side-swept bangs. I pulled up picture after picture on the internet of girls with a similar look and settled on this.
I LOVE This. Of course my bangs wouldn't be as severe, but straight bangs are in right now- at least I think they're still in. Plus I think if you're cute you can pretty much pull off anything, and those who know me know I think I'm cute ;). But the biggest thing I had going for me is that I've done straight bangs before and they were a hit.

Now I did the bangs with short hair mind you but I wore this style at a concert and got tons of compliments. Point is I thought I was making a good decision. I reassured myself on the way to my appointment... What does Marcus really know about hair?! Surely not as much as I do. Just wait, he thinks he won't like it but once he sees me he'll love it!!
Well, last night he saw it and he didn't love it which really bums me out.
He actually said it takes away from my cuteness. In fact, he said my afro (that I had after I took my braids out- Black girls know what I'm talking about) was cuter. OUCH!!
Needless to say, now I'm not as confident- and all ladies know confidence is key to pulling off any look. I mean, I look at myself and I still really like it... but it's hard to love it knowing that my husband hates it.
He even got up early this morning and left for work before I woke up. So be honest with me, I think I can take it...

Nikkie, if you are going to be around the house and do laundry and cook, then rock the sidebangs for Marcus.
HOWEVER, for the wedding, you are not going to be carrying laundry baskets or cooking dinner. You're probably going to have a sexy outfit on and heels. So rock your bangs like an ubermodel!

I think you need to wear edgy, super funky outfits that go with your new look to pull it all together. (I don't like polka dots with puffy sleeves with it...maybe that is what was throwing it off for him). But it's totally cute and you can definitely work it.
I'm SO looking forward to seeing you.

@ Jas, B & B- First let me breath a big sigh of relief! My cousin Ahki called me right after I posted this and told me that she didn't like it but because she loves me she wanted to call and tell me and not write it here. I know that she would tell me the truth (just like Marcus) so I was worried... But I also trust that you guys would tell me the truth!! So now I can rest easy knowing that I'm not delusional in thinking that my hair looks good and while some may not like this style on me others will. I needed that :).
And Bri, I agree about the clothes and I plan to leave the soccer mom wear in Okinawa!!

I think Briana hit it right on. The cut is cute and suits your face well but the shirt is throwing the "look" off. I love bangs (with my forehead I have no choice) and I love them on you too. But the good thing about bangs is that they grow quickly so you can go back and forth between the full forward bang you have now and Marcus' preferred side bang.

Okay Nikkie, the bangs look better in the latest pic because I can see more of your face, and maybe the shirt was throwing everything off. I'm glad you got some positive feedback from others. I can understand where Marcus is comming from. Whenever your mother dedided to change her hairstyle I always wanted to have my input on the final look and was disappointed when she did not wear the style I picked out. But I got over it. Marcus loves you so much that eventually your beauty, style and grace will overcome his disappointment. As we all know you are the bomb and we can't wait to see all you guys. We miss you sooooo much.

I LIKE it! But Marcus is right. It is detracting, BUT, only because it is covering up so much of that lovely face, specifically my favorite feature, the eyes. If the bangs were a half an inch shorter I'd Love it...wish i could see you! When are you in AZ?

@ Aunt Sharon- there are salons here but I've been too scared to get my hair done in any of them. Up until now I've done it myself, and the only reason I was comfortable with letting someone else do it was because the lady who hooked me up is one of my friends and I trusted that she'd do a great job.
@Ahki & Kia- I think my face is hiding a bit behind the bangs... maybe they should be a little shorter. KiKi, we get to AZ on the 24th.
